Fireweed privacy policy
Fireweed is a web browser for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Pronghorn Labs does not collect, store, share or sell any information about you through it. Fireweed has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we run no servers that your data passes through. Like any browser, it connects to other services on your behalf; this policy says which, and what each receives.
What stays on your device
Browsing data. Each Space, such as Personal and Work, keeps its own cookies, logins, cache and site data on your device. Burning a tab or a Space deletes that data, except for sites you have marked fireproof. Fireweed keeps no browsing history beyond each tab’s back and forward list, which goes when the tab closes.
Private tabs keep their cookies and site data in memory only. Nothing from them is written to disk, and it is all deleted when the last private tab in a Space closes.
Rule suggestions. When you move the same site to another Space by hand a few times, Fireweed offers to make a rule. It counts those moves on your device for a week, and a burn forgets them.
Reader. Copies of articles you keep offline, their text and images, are stored on your device and left out of device backups.
Listen turns articles into speech on your device. Article text is never sent anywhere to be read aloud.
What syncs through your iCloud
If you are signed in to iCloud, Fireweed uses it to keep your devices in step: your Spaces, rules, favorites, pinned sites, fireproof sites and settings, in iCloud key-value storage; and your Reader library (saved links, folders, tags, reading progress and which articles are kept offline), in your private CloudKit database. Apple stores this in your iCloud account under its privacy policy. We cannot see it. You can turn off iCloud for Fireweed in your device’s settings.
What other services receive
Each of these receives your IP address and the usual details of a web request, such as the time and the browser’s name and version, and handles them under its own privacy policy.
- Websites you visit, and sites whose icons Fireweed fetches for your tabs and favorites. Saving a page to the Reader, or keeping it offline, downloads that page and its images.
- Your search engine. A search from the address bar goes to the engine you chose: DuckDuckGo (the default), Google, Bing, Ecosia or Kagi. Fireweed sends nothing as you type.
- oisd.nl. If you turn on ad and tracker blocking, Fireweed downloads oisd’s public block list about once a week. Only the list is requested; nothing about the sites you visit is sent.
- Hugging Face. Listen’s natural voice is an optional download of about 300 MB, made only if you choose it. It comes from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), a third-party service that hosts the open-source Kokoro voice model, and Hugging Face receives your IP address and the details of the download under its privacy policy. Once downloaded, the voice works without a network connection.
What Apple may collect
Apple handles the download and, if you have agreed to it in your device’s settings, may share anonymous crash and usage reports with developers. We use them only to fix problems. That is governed by Apple’s privacy policy. Email you choose to send us reaches us with whatever you put in it; we use it only to answer you.
Children
Fireweed collects nothing from anyone, including children.
